When professional picture framers design a frame package for a piece of artwork, one of their primary objectives is to protect it for an extended period of time. The time frame of protection is generally determined by where it is hanging and the climate of the local area. For example, in a hot and humid climate this could be as early as 5 - 7 years, longer in dry arid areas.

Moisture builds up behind the glazing and can react with chemicals in the atmosphere to produce aesthetic problems and also cause physical damage to the frame package.

It is our responsibility, as professional picture framers, to recommend regular examinations of your valuable artwork and prized posessions in order to maintain the level of preservation considered at the time of the initial framing.
